There are no better between each position because the important things is your passion. If you like about logic business process then you choose as functional consultant. If you like about network, server, all about technical then you must chooser BASIS consultant. And if you like programming then you choose ABAP Programmer.
For fresh graduate or beginning consultant, salary must be standard because you have no experience. But as soon as you have experience especially involve in many project then your salary increase too. If you have more money and have more then five full project cycles, i suggest to take certification SAP. After you have that certification, many companies or head hunter will see you because a consultant with certificate more valued then an consultant without certificate. As i know when you have more than 5 years experience and have certificate then companies pay you per hour or day. My friend told me that he has friend as a functional consultant module PM paid $700 each day. If he work 20 days (1 month) then he paid $14000. Not to bad for your first career.

Now, i will talk about job related SAP. SAP is complex system, so if you can master it then you have good value to get higher career or higher salary. SAP consist of many modules such as FI (Finance), CO (Controller), PM (Plant Maintenance), MM (Material Management), PP (Production Planning), HR (Human Resource), SD (Sales Distribution), and many more. It is impossible for someone who really master all modules in SAP
because each module have own business process. But knowing related all
modules works is possible because as SAP consultant is a must to know
related each module.
SAP jobs divided into three kind position, namely :
- Functional Consultant
- BASIS Consultant This consultant related about technical knowledge in SAP like maintenance server, maintenance authorization each user ID SAP, network, bandwidth.
- ABAP Programmer Like another language program, SAP has own language program and its call ABAP. ABAP programmer's job create report base on user requirement. Although SAP have standard reports but sometimes user need special report for their needs so ABAP create it to them.
Each module have specialist consultant and for someone who can know about business process one modules then know to communicate with BASIS or ABAP about user requirement so that person can be called as functional consultant. For example module HR have own functional consultant. Main job for this functional consultant is to gathering all user requirement, give better solution for problem related their module and communicated to BASIS or ABAP for changing related user requirement.
